Design Team Questionnaire—Chris Cuthbert
- How long have you been scrapbooking?
I have been papercrafting since I was a kid, but seriously for the past 10 years.
- What are your favorite products?
I love the right tool for the job! And I rely on basic items that I know will work for me every time such as red line Tacky Tape, Diamond Glaze, my ATG adhesive gun, and StazOn ink. Can't do without ribbon, buttons or chipboard!
- Who are your favorite manufacturers?
Ranger products (Tim Holtz), Cosmo Cricket, Teresa Collins, Zutter, and Bazzill
- How would you describe your style?
Distressed vintage collage with feminine touches
- What are your favorite colors and combinations?
Love, love, love turquoise with barn red on a background of white or black. A close second is navy background with lime green and white.
- What type of projects do you usually make?
I'm more of a 'projects' girl. I don't have albums full of scrapbook layouts...maybe someday I will tackle that. I like mini-albums and altered items.
- What’s your favorite scrapbooking tool?
Bind-it-All binding tool!
- Where do you look for inspiration?
Everywhere! Scrapping magazines, of course, but color combinations or composition ideas can be all around you. Look at children's books, store displays, vintage books or magazines, television shows (especially the intros), fabric and jewelry, etc. I'm also inspired by the photos or stories that I want to preserve. Many times those items will direct the path that my project will take. Most of the time, the end product will only reflect a portion of my original idea because I get new ideas as a move through the project.
- What advice do you have for beginning scrapbookers?
First, you must give yourself permission to make mistakes. Don't be too caught up in doing everything “right.” This is your story, your project, your creativity, and only you can express it. Second, don't invest a lot of money in this venture in the beginning. Go slow...you only really need adhesive, a trimmer, and scissors to turn paper, photos and journaling into some really fun scrapping projects. Build your tool set over time, borrow items if possible to try them out before buying, ask friends what tools/projects they can't live without. Lastly, enjoy the process of working with this papercrafting venture. There's no stress allowed!!!!
