Design Team Questionnaire—Lisa Jackson
- How long have you been scrapbooking?
I made scrapbooks back in the day when we used albums made out of manila paper and glued things down with rubber cement. I started scrapbooking as we know it in 2004, and was just going to make one album. I wasn’t going to be one of “those” scrapbooking women. And now I am!
- What are your favorite products?
Patterned paper, chipboard, buttons, and ribbon.
- Who are your favorite manufacturers?
Jenni Bowlin, Making Memories, Anna Griffin, Autumn Leaves, Sassafras Lass, Doodlebug, Webster’s Pages, Graphic 45, Scenic Route, 7 Gypsies, October Afternoon. I’m really drawn to anything that’s vintage or that’s whimsical.
- How would you describe your style?
Linear, playful, with lots of paper piecing, hand stitching, buttons, and ribbon. People usually tell me that my pages look like a quilt.
- What are your favorite colors and combinations?
Red, turquoise, aqua, brown, orange, apple green, and pretty much any shade of blue
- What type of projects do you usually make?
Mostly 12x12 pages, but I’ve made lots of mini-books as gifts. My favorite thing I’ve ever made was a family recipe book that I gave to my whole family as a Christmas gift.
- What’s your favorite scrapbooking tool?
Tonic scissors, Heidi Swapp petite paper piercer, Basic Grey rub-on tool, needle, embroidery floss, border punches
- Where do you look for inspiration?
Of course I scour magazines, online galleries, and quilting patterns, but my biggest source of inspiration is my son and our family. More than anything else that I do, I consider myself a storyteller. Scrapbooking is the medium I use to tell my son about our life together and about all of our hopes and dreams for him, as well as about the richness of our family’s traditions.
- What advice do you have for beginning scrapbookers?
Scrapbooking should be fun. Make projects you love. No one’s going to notice if there’s a “mistake” on your pages. All they’ll notice is the time, effort, and love that went into your creations. You’re preserving your family’s history.
